I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside.

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her.

It is my turn to use. My turn to hurt.

MY THOUGHTS

I picked up this book because I absolutely adored the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu (and because she is just awesome and one of my favourite authors)

Characters:
Adelina Amouteru is the protagonist in this series and she surely doesn’t have an easy life. After the blood fever (that took away her mother) she lives together with her dad and her little sister but she gets abused by her father because has she survived the blood fever and got marked and of course there’s something special about her.
I actually really liked Adelina as a character even though she could act soooo naive sometimes and without thinking about what she’s doing, which left me behind head shaking.
However, I feel like there is going to be a lot of character developement i the future books.
I really liked the other characters as well. For example her sister Violetta. Teren and Enzo had a lot of depth.

Plot:
At first, I was afraid that the book may be too close to the Legend series just because it happens a lot that other series of the same author have a lot of similarities.
However, that was not the case. The story was totally different from the Legend trilogy and I really enjoyed the world building and how Marie Lu creates the atmosphere that fits to the current situation.
There were actually no lengths in this book because the author spread all the background information though the whole entire book and not all at once 🙂
And guys! Those plot twist doe! 😀 Awesome and sad and mind blowing.

Writing:
So the writing was pretty good, just like I expected but somehow I missed this feeling of a Marie Lu book. Do you know what I mean? Like, if you read a book by a certain author and there is this special atmosphere that you only get with this author?
Okay that’s confusing 😀

  1. I just finished my first Marie Lu book, Legend, last night, and it immediately went onto my “favorite books” shelf. Am debating which Lu series to read after the Legend trilogy, either The Young Elites or the Rose Society. Have you read The Rose Society?

    • I’m glad you enjoyed it! The series is one of my all time favourites 🙂
I am currently reading the rose society since this is the sequel of the young elites and it’s pretty fast pacing so far 🙂
